Best family car to rent in Jaipur: Carens, Ertiga or Innova Crysta

Kia Carens, Ertiga or Innova Crysta rental in Jaipur? Choose by how many people and bags you have, with boot figures, third-row facts and what to confirm.

Quick answer

Choose by people and bags, not by the seat count. For five with luggage, any of the three works with the third row folded. For six or seven with suitcases, the Innova Crysta has the most boot space at 300 litres, and the Carens is close behind in practice; the Ertiga suits soft bags, particularly the CNG version. All three are short of boot space with every seat in use, so ask the provider for the seat layout before you book.

Choose by your party: a quick guide

Find your group in the table, then read the notes below. The suggestions assume everyone is staying for more than a day and has real luggage.

How much luggage really fits

Boot figures only tell part of the story, because the shape matters as much as the volume. The Innova Crysta is listed at 300 litres with all rows up, the Carens at 216 litres and the Ertiga at 209 litres. With the third row folded, the Carens is listed at 645 litres and the Ertiga at 550 litres.

The more useful result comes from CarDekho's side-by-side test. With the last row up and the seat backs at a comfortable angle, both the Carens and Innova Crysta took one large suitcase and one small trolley bag. So despite the Crysta's bigger number, seven people with a suitcase each will not fit in either.

The three cars compared for a family renter

Some of these details differ from what the catalogue shows, and that is why the provider's answer matters. The table uses specifications from Autocar India, with boot figures from the sources listed below.

Kia Carens: the easiest for adults in the third row

CarDekho found that the Carens and Crysta both seat a six-foot adult in every row. The Carens it tested had more third-row headroom, plus two charging points, reading lights and tablet slots back there, which helps on a long drive with teenagers. Its third row folds flat into the floor. Equipment depends on the version, so ask what your rental has.

The catalogue had one Carens listing in Jaipur at the last check, on New Sanganer Road in the Mansarovar area, so availability is the limit. Contact the provider early, and keep the Ertiga as a fallback.

Maruti Ertiga: the most choice in Jaipur, with one catch

The Ertiga on rent in Jaipur has the most listings of the three, and it is the shortest and easiest to park. It suits a family that travels light. Some catalogue entries show five or six seats, and the car has seven, so ask the provider.

The catch is the CNG version. Reviews describe the CNG tank raising the boot floor, leaving room mostly for soft bags with all rows up. It suits a local family trip. For an airport pickup with suitcases, ask for petrol or plan on folding the third row. Also ask how the provider wants it refuelled.

Innova Crysta: most boot, and what to verify

The Innova Crysta has the most boot space of the three and a comfortable second row, and CarDekho found it had slightly more knee room there. Its seats sit higher than the Carens, so ask an older passenger which they would find easier. Its third row suits two adults, not three, and has no charging points.

Verify three things. The one Jaipur listing here shows five seats and petrol, but the current Crysta is a seven- or eight-seat diesel, so that entry is probably wrong or describes an older car. An eight-seat car has a bench in the middle, so ask if you want captain seats. And it is a manual with no automatic on the current model.

Children, seat belts and how many people you can carry

Section 194B of the Motor Vehicles Act requires a child under 14 to be secured by a safety belt or child restraint, with a ₹1,000 fine otherwise. Ask if the provider has a child seat, and bring your own if you have a baby or toddler, because rental supply is not something to count on.

Do not squeeze in one more person. Section 194A sets a fine of ₹200 per excess passenger on a transport vehicle and the car can be held until they get off. Check the registered seating with the provider. This is general information, not legal advice.

When two smaller cars beat one big one

If your group has two licensed drivers, two hatchbacks or sedans can carry more luggage than one seven-seater. They also let you split up for the day, and each one is easier to park near Amer or the bazaars. Check the Jaipur car rental listings and compare the total, including both deposits.

If nobody wants to drive, a taxi may be the better option, particularly for a day trip. For a longer outing, the guide to driving to Pushkar covers route and km. Other seven-seat listings are compared in the Scorpio N and S11 guide and the Fortuner guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Kia Carens available on rent in Jaipur?

The catalogue had one Carens listing at the last check, so it may not be available for your dates. The table on this page shows the latest rate. Confirm availability, seat layout and deposit directly with the provider.

Which is better for a family, Ertiga or Innova Crysta?

The Crysta has more boot and second-row space, so choose it for seven people or long trips. The Ertiga is smaller, easier to park and has more listings. For five or six people on short trips it may be all you need.

Can seven adults travel in an Ertiga?

Seven seats are fitted, but the boot is small with the third row in use. Allow for soft bags only, and less on CNG. If everyone is an adult with luggage, look for a bigger car or two cars.

Is the Innova Crysta available self drive in Jaipur?

The listing here does not state self drive or with a driver, so ask. Cab operators also offer Innovas with a driver, which is billed differently from rent per day. Compare both before booking.

Should I choose CNG or petrol for a family trip?

Choose petrol if you have hard suitcases, since the CNG tank takes boot space. CNG suits a local trip with light bags. Ask where to refuel on your route if you plan to leave Jaipur.
