Why Jaipur suits a scooty

The best reason to choose a scooty here is the walled city. Hawa Mahal, Johari Bazaar, Bapu Bazaar and Tripolia all sit inside the old grid, where traders and planners have argued about parking for years. A scooter needs a fraction of the space of a car, and that counts for more than anything else in those streets.

Festival dates can tighten things further. For Diwali 2025, police ran an evening plan for the old city that aimed to reduce private vehicles in the markets, with free e-rickshaws between the main gates. Check the latest arrangements before riding in around a big festival.

Choosing a pickup point

Scooter pickups are spread more widely than any other vehicle type here, which works in your favour. Hawa Mahal Road puts you in the old city with Badi Chaupar metro close by, and the New Aatish Market hub shares its name with a Pink Line stop. Silver Square Mall is on MI Road, the central shopping road that runs past Ajmeri Gate, while the Jaipur Junction and Sindhi Camp branches suit anyone coming straight off a train or bus.

If you are staying south of the centre, look at Rambagh, Gopalpura and Mansarovar instead. You have to bring the scooter back, so a branch near your hotel usually beats a slightly lower rate on the far side of town.

How far a scooty should go

Amer is the classic scooty ride, about 11 km from the centre. Visitors usually park at the base and walk or take a jeep up to the fort. Nahargarh is reachable too, but the road climbs in sharp bends and travel guides list closing time at about 5.30 pm, so go up in daylight and be down before dusk.

Reading the rent per day

A low daily figure is only part of the cost. Check whether a day means 24 hours or a calendar day, how many kilometres are included, and what the deposit is. Many Jaipur listings also show an hourly rate, which can work out better for a single evening in the old city, as long as no long minimum booking applies.
