Flyovers and elevated roads

In September 2026, Bengaluru Traffic Police announced restrictions on two-wheelers on the Airport Road and Electronics City elevated corridors. Reports since then conflict on whether those bans are still in force, so check the latest traffic police advisory and follow the signs on the road.

Officials said further restrictions would be introduced in stages, so read the latest traffic police advisory before relying on either road, and follow the signs at each ramp.

The Mysuru expressway rule

Motorcycles have been barred from the main carriageway of the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway since 1 August 2023. Bikes have to use the two-lane service roads alongside it instead, so a ride to Mysuru will take much longer than the expressway's 118 km suggests.

Weekend rides

Nandi Hills is the obvious one. Karnataka Tourism lists opening at 6 am, and recent reports put the worst weekend queues between about 5.30 and 8.30 am, so a weekday ride is a very different experience. Parking is charged separately and costs more at weekends.

On longer rides towards Ooty or Wayanad, remember that the highways through Bandipur close to traffic overnight. Reports differ on whether the closure starts at 8.30 or 9 pm, so plan to be through well before then, and confirm the hours.

For weekday riding, think about which bike you actually want in traffic. A heavy geared motorcycle is hard work through Silk Board at rush hour, and a mid-size bike can be a better fit for city days than the most powerful thing in the table.

Common questions

Bike on rent in Bangalore: common questions

Can I ride a bike on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway?

Not on the main carriageway. NHAI barred motorcycles, scooters and other slow vehicles from it from 1 August 2023, and they must use the service roads on either side. Watch for the entry signs, as checks have been carried out along the route.

Can I ride a rented bike to Bangalore airport?

Yes, but it is about 35 to 40 km from the centre, and rules on the Airport Road elevated corridor were in flux in late 2026. Check the latest traffic police advisory for that stretch, and allow time for the service road if the flyover is closed to you. Also ask whether your provider lets you leave a bike at the airport, because it may want it back at a hub.

Is a Royal Enfield Bullet on rent available in Bangalore here?

Not at the moment, though listings change as providers update their fleets, so go by the table. If no Royal Enfield appears, ask the provider directly whether one is available.

Does a car licence cover a geared motorcycle?

No. 'Motor cycle with gear' is its own class on an Indian licence, separate from light motor vehicles. Expect the provider to check it at pickup, and confirm what it accepts before paying.
