Renting a Bike or Scooty in Bangalore: The Minimum-Booking Trap on Hourly Rates

Hourly bike rates in Bangalore often carry a 24-hour minimum. See real minimums by model, how km limits work, and why airport trips need careful planning.

Quick answer

Many Bangalore bike and scooty rentals are priced by the hour but carry a long minimum booking, so a cheap hourly rate can be a full-day charge. On Royal Brothers' tariff checked on 4 November 2026, seven of nine models had a 24-hour minimum. Multiply the rate by the minimum hours before you compare. Also plan around the airport: it is 33 to 40 km from central areas, and that provider says vehicles go back to where they came from.

How the hourly rate turns into a day rate

An hourly rate looks like you pay for what you use. Once there is a minimum booking, you pay for the minimum, however little you ride. Here is an invented example: if a listing showed ₹30 an hour with a 24-hour minimum, a three-hour errand would cost ₹720, not ₹90, before tax and fuel.

So the useful sum is the hourly rate multiplied by the minimum hours. That gives the lowest amount you can pay, and it is the number to compare. Current rates are in the table above, and more models are on the Bangalore bike page and the Bangalore scooty page.

Real minimum bookings by model

These minimums and km allowances come from Royal Brothers' public Bangalore tariff, checked on 4 November 2026. They change, so confirm them at booking, and look at the Friday to Sunday column if your dates include a weekend.

Three things the table tells you

Read together, these terms change the choice of bike more than the rate does.

  • Short trips: at the time of checking, only the e-Access could be booked for a few hours, so a short errand on any other model meant paying for far more time than you use.
  • Weekends: the Ntorq's minimum rose from 10 hours to 24 on Friday to Sunday. The same trip can cost more than double on a Saturday.
  • Longer use: past the 24-hour mark, the tariff showed the same hourly rate, so an extra few hours stay proportionate. Compare this with weekly or monthly plans for a longer stay.

How to compare two Bangalore listings fairly

Comparing an hourly listing with a daily one takes three short steps, and it stops the headline rate from deciding for you.

  • Work out your billed hours: the longer of your real hours and the minimum for that day of the week.
  • Multiply by the hourly rate, or use the daily rate if the listing quotes one, then add tax if it is not included.
  • Compare the km you get for that booking with the distance you expect to ride, and add any excess at the listed per-km charge.

How the km allowance works

The allowance is set per hour, so it grows with your booking. At 5 km an hour, a 24-hour booking gives you 120 km, and a 10-hour booking gives you 50 km. Go past that and an excess charge per km applies, listed on the tariff by model. How km limits work has the sum.

Think about this if you are leaving town. The roughly 60 km to Nandi Hills that Karnataka Tourism gives is about 120 km there and back, so a scooter's 24-hour allowance is already used before any riding around. A geared model with a higher allowance leaves more room.

Airport distance changes the plan

Karnataka Tourism's own pages put Kempegowda International Airport about 33 km from Bangalore Palace and about 40 km from Banashankari, and places further south or east are further still. A two-wheeler for the airport run is a poor match, for three reasons.

  • Return: Royal Brothers' FAQ says it has no inter or intra state drop options, and vehicles go back to where they were collected. You cannot ride to the airport and leave the scooter there on those terms.
  • Luggage: carrying a cabin bag on a scooter for 40 km of fast road is awkward and tiring.
  • Road rules: restrictions on the Airport Road elevated corridor were announced in 2026 and may still be changing, as explained below.

Airport Road flyover: check before you ride

Bengaluru Traffic Police announced restrictions on five elevated roads from 4 September 2026, on a trial basis, including a ban on two-wheelers on part of the International Airport Road corridor between Sanjeevnagar Cross and Vidyashilp Junction. Reports since then conflict on whether that ban, and one on the Electronics City corridor, were paused or are in force. No current official order could be confirmed, so follow the signs at each ramp. The Bangalore bike page has more on city road rules.

Royal Brothers says it offers bike rentals near the airport, which suits someone landing and staying nearby. If your stay is in the city, take a cab or the airport bus into town and collect the bike near where you sleep. For the two-wheeler licence and pickup details, read the documents guide.

Other terms worth reading before you book

These come from Royal Brothers' published FAQ and tariff, and other providers will differ. The site also lists a Honda Dio in Bangalore from Rentrip, which quotes by the day rather than the hour.

  • Tax and fuel: the tariff says prices exclude both. You get enough fuel to reach the nearest petrol station.
  • Late return: delay charges apply after a 30-minute grace period, and depend on the vehicle and location.
  • Licence: an original Indian licence plus Aadhaar. Learner licences are not accepted. Foreign riders need a home licence, an international driving permit, a visa and a passport. See the guide for foreigners.
  • Cancellation: the share of rent kept rises as pickup gets closer, from 10% at 72 hours or more to 100% for a no-show. The deposit comes back either way.
  • Deposit: it is refundable, and the amount depends on the vehicle. Read how deposits work.

When a rental is the wrong choice in Bangalore

If you only need a bike for one short errand, a minimum booking makes a rental poor value, and an auto, cab or the metro will usually cost less. If you need a vehicle every day for a month, skip the hourly model altogether and ask about long-term plans, which Royal Brothers says it offers. The scooty or bike guide helps you decide what to rent once you know you need one.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rent a bike in Bangalore for just a few hours?

Only on some models. When the tariff was checked, most had a 24-hour minimum, the Ntorq had 10 hours from Monday to Thursday, and the e-Access had four. Enter your exact times to see the real charge.

What is the cheapest way to rent a scooty in Bangalore?

Multiply each hourly rate by its minimum hours, then compare those totals for your dates. Add tax and fuel, and check the km allowance if you are riding far. Weekday bookings can have shorter minimums than weekend ones.

Why does the price change when I pick a Friday?

The tariff sets minimum bookings by day, and on at least one model the Friday to Sunday minimum is longer. A longer minimum raises the lowest amount you can pay. Prices may also vary with availability, as the tariff itself states.

Can I return a rented scooty at Bangalore airport?

Assume not, unless your provider confirms otherwise. Royal Brothers says vehicles go back to their pickup location. If you need to reach the airport at the end of a trip, return the scooter first and take a cab or bus.

Does the km limit reset each day?

The tariff states it per hour, and the FAQ describes a limit per 24 hours, so on a longer booking it builds up with your hours. Ask the provider whether unused kilometres carry across days. Keep a note of the odometer at pickup.
