Quick answer
To rent a bike in Mumbai, choose a model, check which area it is collected from, then book with the provider using your original driving licence and ID. The catalogue here lists commuter bikes and scooters from third-party providers, not Bullets or superbikes, and the rates below are published figures rather than quotes. Before paying, ask for the deposit amount, the meaning of a day and the type of insurance. Plan your route too, because two-wheelers cannot use the Sea Link, Coastal Road, Atal Setu, Eastern Freeway or the Expressway.

What you can rent through this site right now
People search for a bike on rent, bike hire or a 2 wheeler rental in Mumbai and often mean different things. Start by deciding whether you want gears at all, because the listings fall into four groups. Compare current rates on the Mumbai bike page and the Mumbai scooty page.
| Group | Models listed | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Geared commuter bikes | Hero Splendor Plus, Hero Passion Pro, Honda CB Shine, Bajaj Discover, Yamaha FZ16 | Riders happy with a clutch, and longer rides out of town |
| Small automatic bike | Honda Navi | Bike looks with no gear changes |
| Petrol scooters | Honda Activa, Honda Dio, TVS Jupiter, TVS Wego, Hero Xoom, Aprilia Storm 125 | Stop-start traffic and short trips around one area |
| Electric scooters | Ola S1 Pro, BGauss C12 | Fixed short routes where you can charge |
How to rent a bike in Mumbai, step by step
CarBikeRent.com compares listings and takes no bookings, so every step after the first happens with the provider. This order saves the most wasted effort.
- Write down your route first. If it depends on a road closed to two-wheelers, no bike will solve it.
- Shortlist two or three models and note the listed daily rate.
- Open the provider's page and find the pickup area for each model. Rule out anything that needs a long cab ride.
- Enter your real dates. Live availability and the final price only appear at this stage.
- Ask the questions listed further down, and get the answers in writing, even if only on WhatsApp.
- At pickup, carry your original licence and ID. Photograph the bike on all sides, including the fuel level and odometer.
- At return, get written confirmation of the condition and of when your deposit will come back.
Check the pickup area before you compare rates
Mumbai listings rarely show a street address on a comparison page, and two models from the same source can sit a long way apart. The Ola S1 Pro page, for example, shows Seawoods in Navi Mumbai, while the BGauss scooter listing shows Chakala in Andheri East. A low rate on a bike collected an hour from your base is rarely the better deal.
If you are arriving by air or long-distance train, the Mumbai rentals page explains how far apart the main arrival points are. Pick the listing nearest to where you will sleep, then compare price.
The Maharashtra rental licence worth asking about
Renting out motorcycles is a licensed business under the central Rent a Motor Cycle Scheme, 1997, which says nobody may run such a business under the scheme without a licence. Maharashtra froze the scheme for about nine years and lifted that freeze in June 2025, when the transport minister was reported as saying action would follow against unauthorised operators. PTI reported in September 2025 that the first two licences under the revived scheme went to operators in Alibag.
This site does not check who holds a licence, and could not confirm how many Mumbai firms have one. You can ask, though, because the scheme gives you three concrete things to look for.
- A licensed operator must display the original licence prominently at its main office, with certified copies at branches.
- The licence form lists the registration numbers authorised for renting, so your bike's number should be on it.
- The licensing authority looks for comprehensive insurance on the operator's motorcycles, and the operator must keep a complaint book at each office.
Your licence, helmets and the bike's papers
Three legal points matter at the counter or at a police checkpoint. This is general information rather than legal advice.
Licence class
The Motor Vehicles Act lists 'motor cycle without gear' and 'motor cycle with gear' as separate classes from 'light motor vehicle', so a car licence does not cover a bike. Check which classes are printed on yours. Royal Brothers and Rentrip both ask for an original licence on their published terms, and the full document list covers what else to carry.
Helmets
Section 129 requires protective headgear for everyone above four years of age on a motorcycle, with an exemption for a Sikh wearing a turban. Section 194D sets a ₹1,000 fine and a three-month licence disqualification. Rentrip's page says helmets are included, but ask whether that means one or two.
Vehicle papers
Ask to see the registration certificate, insurance and pollution certificate. The road ministry's advisory covers records shown through DigiLocker or mParivahan, so an ordinary photo on a phone may not be enough for an officer.
Eight questions to ask before you pay
A provider who answers these clearly is easier to deal with later. Vague answers are useful information too.
- What is the total for my exact pickup and return times, including tax?
- How much is the deposit, how is it paid, and how many days does the refund take? See how rental deposits work.
- Does a day mean 24 hours or a calendar day? Rentrip's page states 24 hours, but other providers may differ.
- Is there a kilometre limit, and what is the excess charge? Rentrip's page states no km limit.
- Is the insurance comprehensive, and what do I pay towards damage?
- Who do I call if the bike breaks down, and who pays for recovery?
- May I leave Mumbai with the bike?
- How do you pass on a traffic challan, and within what time?
If something goes wrong during the rental
Call 112 first if anyone is hurt. Then phone the provider before arranging any repair, and photograph the bike and the scene. Who pays afterwards depends on the agreement and the insurance, so read who pays after an accident.
If a deposit is held back without a reason, ask for the deduction in writing with photos or a bill. If that fails, the National Consumer Helpline takes complaints on 1915 and online. Under the scheme, a licensed operator must also send a copy of any entry in its complaint book to the licensing authority within three days.
Renting is also the wrong answer for some trips. If you are mostly crossing the city north to south, surface roads are slow on two wheels, so compare it with a train or metro before you book.
Frequently asked questions
What is the bike rent in Mumbai per day?
The table above shows the lowest listed daily rate for each model, updated at each site build. Fuel is normally extra, tax may be too, and the provider's price for your dates can differ. Use it to compare models rather than to set a budget.
Can I rent a bike in Mumbai without a deposit?
Rentrip's pages advertise deposits 'as low as Rs 0', but they also say the deposit varies by bike and is shown on each listing. Treat a zero-deposit offer as something to confirm for your exact bike. Ask too whether any card hold or advance payment takes its place.
Can I get a bike delivered to me in Mumbai?
Delivery depends on the provider, and the listings here do not confirm it. Ask for the delivery fee and for what happens at return, since some firms charge for collection as well. Compare that total with travelling to a nearer pickup.
Is a bike or a scooty better for Mumbai?
A scooty is easier in stop-start traffic and needs only a gearless licence class. A geared bike suits riders who are comfortable with a clutch and plan a longer ride out of town. The scooty or bike comparison goes through the choice in detail.
Does CarBikeRent.com check the bikes or the providers?
No. It compares what third-party providers publish and has not inspected any bike. The provider confirms availability, price, deposit and terms, and your contract is with them.
