If you were looking for a bike

Plenty of people type 'bike on rent in Mumbai' and mean any two-wheeler, and for short city trips a scooter such as the Honda Activa or Dio does that job well: no gears in heavy traffic, and easy to place in a small space. The geared bikes in Mumbai are ordinary ones like the Splendor Plus, covered on the Mumbai bike page. If you meant a Royal Enfield, a Harley or a Ducati, the catalogue has none in Mumbai at present, and we would rather tell you here than send you through a list of scooters.

If the table shows an electric scooter, ask the provider what real range to expect with a passenger and where you can charge it. Running out of battery in Mumbai traffic is a much bigger nuisance than stopping for petrol.

Roads a rented scooter cannot use

This matters more than the model. Two-wheelers are not allowed on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, the Coastal Road between Marine Drive and Worli, Atal Setu to Navi Mumbai, or the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Traffic police have also barred them from the Eastern Freeway, the JJ Flyover and the BKC-Chunabhatti connector, and more elevated roads may follow, so obey the signs whatever your phone says.

In practice, a long north-south ride means slow surface roads the whole way. That is why a scooter suits exploring around one base, such as Andheri or Bandra, better than a daily run to South Mumbai. Use two-wheeler mode on your navigation app, since a car route can send you straight towards a banned road.

Mumbai to Lonavala on two wheels

'Mumbai to Lonavala bike rent' is a real search, and the answer needs some care. The Expressway is closed to you, which leaves the old Mumbai-Pune highway through Panvel and Khopoli, about 85 km each way, with a ghat climb to Khandala among heavy trucks.

Ask first whether the provider allows it and whether the km limit covers it, then be honest with yourself about taking a small scooter up a ghat with two adults on board. An electric scooter is unlikely to manage the round trip on one charge.

Riding through the monsoon

July alone brings over 750 mm of rain on IMD figures. Andheri subway is regularly shut to traffic in heavy downpours and Hindmata in Dadar is a known waterlogging spot, so a 20-minute ride in December can need a different route in July. Check traffic police updates before setting out, and never ride through standing water when you cannot see the road.

How this comparison is built

Source and freshness

This page compares 12 listings from ONN Bikes and Rentrip, most recently checked on 4 Nov 2026. Stated in the source data: a deposit on 0 of 12, a km limit on 1 of 12, and a pickup point on 1 of 12. Rates outside our validation range read "Price on request" instead of being compared. CarBikeRent.com does not rent vehicles: you book with the provider, who confirms the final price.

Common questions

Scooty on rent in Mumbai: common questions

Can I get a Bullet on rent in Mumbai here?

Not at the moment, because the Mumbai two-wheelers on this site are scooters and commuter bikes. If that changes, Royal Enfield models will appear in the listings. Until then you would need to ask rental firms directly.

Can I rent a scooter by the hour in Mumbai?

Most Mumbai listings publish rent per day, and only a few show an hourly rate, so check the table. Where hourly hire exists, ask about any minimum booking. The provider will confirm what applies to your dates.

Which licence do I need to ride a scooter in Mumbai?

You need a licence that covers two-wheelers, since a car-only licence does not include them. Gearless scooters come under 'motor cycle without gear' on an Indian licence. Ask the provider which classes it accepts, and carry the original.

Do both rider and passenger need helmets in Mumbai?

Yes. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, anyone above four years of age on a two-wheeler needs protective headgear, with an exemption for turbaned Sikhs. Ask at booking whether the provider supplies two helmets, because you may have to bring one yourself.

Can I ride a rented scooter from Mumbai to Lonavala?

Only by the old highway, because two-wheelers cannot use the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Rentals can come with kilometre or area limits, so get the provider's agreement first. Four wheels will be kinder on your back for this one.

What is the scooty rent per day in Mumbai?
